MBSC Skating Registration

Tots (Ages 3-5) / 7 Classes (March 31 - May 12)- $80.00
Mondays 6:00 - 6:30pm - Jim Lind Arena



CanSkate Tots is a class designed to introduce young children to skating. During this 30 minute class your child will learn the basics of balance, falling down, getting up and some basic forward and backward skating skills. Classes are designed to be fun, and will be taught by an NCCP certified professional coach.

- If you would prefer to pay with Cash or Cheque please go through the registration process as if you were going to pay online. Continue through to the very end where it asks you to pay, this will ensure that you have a spot reserved. Once done, please email info@skatemtb.com to let us know that you would like to pay with cash or cheque so that we can mark you down. Let us know if you have any questions.

NOTE: Skates, CSA Approved Helmet, Gloves and warm clothing are required. (Due to SkateCanada regulations and insurance coverage skaters without helmets will not be permitted on the ice, parents are not allowed to accompany skaters on the ice)

We are unable to pro-rate for classes missed. The CRA Child Fitness Tax Credit Receipt will be emailed to you. Please print and keep handy for Tax time. Duplicates may not be available. No refunds except for medical reasons, with a doctor’s certificate. CanSkate is Skate Canada's flagship learn-to-skate program, designed for beginners of all ages. When you sign up for CanSkate you will be in 45min program that focuses on fun, participation and basic skill development. Lessons are given in a group format and led by an NCCP certified professional coach. Professional coaches are assisted by trained Program Assistants. Skaters progress at their own rate and coaches make sessions active using teaching aids, music and a wide variety of activities that create a fun environment that promotes learning.

Fast Trackers (Introductory Figure Skating) 7 Classes (March 31 - May 12)- $90.00

Mondays 5:45 - 6:30pm - Jim Lind Arena


This class is designed for skaters between the ages of 6 and 11 that wish to “fast track” into the sport of figure skating. The Fundamental Movements continue to be instructed, but with a focus on figure skating. It is recommended that skaters should have passed Stage 4 of the CanSkate program to participate in this program, however the Director of Skating may make exceptions. Classes are 45 minutes in length and figure skates are required.

Pre Hockey (Ages 5 -7) / 7 Classes (March 31 - May 12)- $90.00

The Pre-Hockey (learn to skate) program is designed to give an introduction to skating for the new skater, a foundation of the essential skills for the intermediate skater, and advanced skating skills for the more experienced skater. Designed with a “fun in learning” environment, each class during the week will focus on a different set of fundamental skating skills needed to be a successful hockey or ringette player. Each session will end with a recommendation for the next step, with a goal to progress these skaters into the MBSC Power Skating Program and Westside Minor Hockey or Westside Ringette programs. Geared for skaters ages 5 - 7- Our focus on this class is to get the BRAND NEW, future hockey player steady on his/her feet and comfortable on the ice. – Fundamentals focused on include: Balance, falling down & getting up, duck walking & marching, hockey position, 2 foot glides, forward strides, and basic backward skating. Helmet is mandatory, full hockey gear is optional.

Power Skating- Level 1, 2, & 3 /6 Classes (April 2 - May 14) - $90.00

Recommended for Invitation or Novice Level Hockey players (ages 6 - 8)
Level 2 Recommended for advanced Novice, Atom, and basic level Pee Wee players (ages 8 - 11)
Level 3 Recommended for advanced Pee Wee, Bantom, and Midget players (ages 11 & up)

Power Skating is an action-packed, high energy instructional power skating program geared to hockey and ringette skaters that focuses on balance, power, agility, speed and endurance. Skills, techniques and conditioning drills are taught in a progressive format that emphasizes how the skills apply to game situations.

Junior Academy (Basic Figure Skating) 17 week program (January 6 - May 15)

(it is recommended that skaters participate in both Mon & Wed classes to accelerate progress)

Mondays 3:30 - 4:30 | Wednesdays 3:30 - 4:15 |- Jim Lind Arena
This class is designed for skaters that have progressed through our CanSkate and Fast Tracker Programs. Skaters are typically presented with the opportunity to move into the Junior Academy program once they have been identified by our Director of Skating. Fundamental Skating Movements continue to be instructed, but with a focus on figure skating. Basic jumping and spinning techniques will be introduced to all skaters. Skaters will also begin to explore the creative side of figure skating through the use of music. Skaters in the Junior Academy program will be showcased in our year end skating production (Spring Fling) and will perform a group number during the show. Once skaters have progressed through the Junior Academy program they will be presented with the opportunity to move into our Primary figure skating program with the goal of entering into local figure skating competitions.

Adult Skate - Open Session 10 Classes (January 10 - March14) - $85.00

This new program is designed for teens & adults ages 16 years & up.
Whether you are a former figure skater or just want to learn some basics, this is the class for you. Designed to be a fun, friendly and safe session for everyone. Practice your edges, turns or learn a new ice dance. This one hour session is a new addition to the MBSC skating programs and will give you the chance to improve your balance, endurance, strength, and overall fitness.
